The king of pocketable mods is at again with the arrival of the Aster Total. Eleaf is looking to entice new vapers with its new all-in-one device by basing the design on a proven performer in the Aster 75W TC mod. While not as powerful as its predecessor, the Aster Total is more portable, and much more suited for beginners. If you're a more advanced user you may still want to get one as a backup. PACKAGING & DESIGN The Aster Total comes in a small box typical of other Eleaf mods with an image of the mod, the name of the product, and the logo featured on the side. Inside, you get the mod itself, a USB cable, two IC 1.1 ohm coil heads, an instruction manual and two leather stickers which you can use to change the color of your device. The mod's design is similar to the company's bigger, more powerful Aster 75W TC mod, with the ergonomic, angular front. However, the Total comes with leather sides that give the mod a soft feel to it. The Total also comes with a built-in battery, tank, and atomizer making it a no-hassle all-in-one device. A fire button is situated on the front of device, and nothing else. It's a simple mod, perfect if you don't want too fuss about with replaceable batteries, swapping out atomizers, or building coils. What sets the Aster Total apart from its predecessor though, is the size. Unlike the Aster 75W TC, the Total is super small and portable and can fit in any jean or front shirt pocket. It's a nice stealthy mod with superb build quality. While not as comprehensive as larger, more advanced mods, the Aster Total has enough to satisfy vapers looking for simplicity. Aside from the ergonomic shape, the Total has an internal tank capable of storing up to 2ml of ejuice. It is top filled for easy access and the eliquid level can be seen through a small window at the back. Below the window is the micro USB charging port. There is an adjustable airflow ring as well, so whether you are a mouth-to-lung or straight-to-lung vaper, the Total can handle it. Direct output voltage means you get a consistent vape until the battery dies down, and there's also dual circuit protection for safety. Other protections include atomizer, short-circuit, and low voltage protection. Coils are replaceable using 1.1 ohm heads, and they're compatible with Eleaf's iCare device. Filling the Aster is easy. Simply screw off the top cap and start filling into the tank. Once full, replace the cap and you are ready to vape. You can easily adjust the airflow using the control ring to find the perfect vape. When using a new atomizer head, be sure to drop in a couple of drops into the coil to prime it. This ensures you don't burn the cotton and ruin the flavor before you even start vaping. Once screwed on to the device, you should wait a couple of minutes for the eliquid to fully saturate the wick before taking your first puff. To turn off the device when not in use, you press the fire button five times in quick succession. To turn it back on, repeat the process. While this device doesn't have the most complete set of features, it is enough to give you a pleasant vape, and it's designed and priced to be a basic no-thrills device. Whatever level you're vaping at, you'll appreciate its simplicity. BATTERY DETAILS The Aster Total has a built-in 1600mah battery that can be charged via USB. It may not seem much on paper, but since the Total uses 1.1ohm coils with a max output of about 25 watts, the battery doesn't take too much of a hit. You can expect to have the Total last a whole day, maybe even two days if you vape moderately. There is also a rudimentary battery level indicator. You'll see that the light stays on when the device is 60 to 100% charged. It slowly flashes when it is 30 to 59%, moderately flashes when it is 10% to 29%, and finally, flashes much faster when the charge is 9% and below. I really like this feature because it saves me having to guess when I need to charge and I can be better prepared for when the charge is getting low. TANK DETAILS The built-in tank can accommodate up to 2ml of eliquid, which is not much, but enough for novice vapers. The atomizer head is a 1.1ohm coil, which again, may not suit advanced vapers but is suitable for beginners. There is a window at the back of the device to check the ejuice level, and top filling is a breeze. The air flow control ring works as it should. It has a nice firm feel to it which makes it resistant to accidental adjustments while inside your pocket or purse. DISLIKES Capacity - At 2ml, the liquid capacity means you will be refilling at least once or twice a day. More if you are a heavy user Drip Tip - Especially for mouth-to-lung vaping, the drip tip isn't especially comfortable to use due to its thickness. LIKES Design and Ergonomics - The similar design aesthetic to the Aster 75W TC is a plus since the original is a pleasure to hold. Affordable - The price makes the Aster Total more than worth it Portability - The mod's small footprint means easier storage in jean pockets or purses Build Quality - A mark of a good product is how well it's made. The Aster Total passes with flying colors here Air Flow Control Ring - Aside from being a welcome addition, the air flow control ring is seated well and firm which means no accidental adjustments Mouth-to-Lung and Lung Inhale - The Aster Total is a great mod for both MTL vapers and lungers. This makes it very versatile. Though it leans more towards MTL vapers Great Battery Life - 1600mah may not seem much, but since the Aster Total isn't designed for power vapers, this makes it more than enough to last a day or two All-In-One - Being an all-in-one device, you don't have to purchase anything else after getting the mod aside from ejuice Interchangeable Coils - The Aster Total uses the same coils as Eleaf's iCare device, which means availability won't be an issue SHOULD YOU GET THE ASTER TOTAL? The Aster Total is a device that gives you value for your money. Though geared towards novice vapers, it can also be used by advanced vapers looking for a simple backup device. I’d say that its simplicity is its biggest selling point. It’s virtually fuss-free, affordable and portable enough to leave in your car or take along while doing heavy duty work.
