If you’ve been vaping for a while and you’re looking to switch from an eGo style e-cig to mods, Kanger Subox Mini Starter Kit might be just what you are looking for.
The new design features an intricately designed sub-tank mini with new coil heads and more advanced box mod, which I’m really impressed with. It’s a more compact compared to the original KBOX, more powerful, and I’d regard it as a high quality vaping kit. Let’s take a closer look…
PACKAGING & DESIGN
I really love the design and look of this box mod. It has a variable wattage box mod that is capable of delivering around 50W driven by a single Flat Top 18650 battery. The battery is not included so you will have to buy one separately, but they’re not usually that expensive.
It’s capable of firing atomizers down to 0.3 ohms, and you can vape while you’re charging unlike some other MODs. It has a micro USB port located on the side so you can re-charge, and an OLED display screen shows your power settings, current resistance and remaining battery life.

FUNCTIONALITY
Kanger’s Subox MOD is very similar to the original KBOX with a few refinements. The MOD is smaller, it now has an LCD and an improved subtank.
Unfortunately, the 510 connection is not spring-loaded. What this basically means is that if you try to use a different tank to the one supplied, you could run in to issues with a small gap between the mod and the tank itself.
Admittedly, I tried a few tanks to see if this would be an issue and they a perfect fit. If you prefer to use your own tank or switch between them and you think something like this might bother you then it’s worth checking this out first.
You have a 5 button press option to turn the device on and off, which is quite common on regulated MODs now-a-days. On the display you can see the wattage, voltage and ohms, and you can change he orientation of the screen 180 degrees by pushing the two smaller buttons at the same time.
SUBTANK
The new vertical coils don’t perform as well as the old horizontal coils from the previous model in my opinion. They just didn’t seem to work that well when I ran them at different wattages when I made the comparison.
I ran the 0.5ohm coil at 50 watts, didn’t get any dry hits, and I did get good flavor, but I think that they should have stuck with the previous coils, which seemed to work better.
The new tank comes with another airflow slots, which can help to create more vapor. The size variances are a little strange to me. It goes from really small holes to a pretty large one, which is a little odd.
I would have liked to have seen more option in-between the smaller and larger slot, but this isn’t something they included. Having said this, the tank does vape pretty well and I don’t think this tank issue is a deal breaker for me.
BATTERY DETAILS
This kit doesn’t come with a battery so unless you already have one, you’ll need to purchase this separately. I can’t stress enough how important it is that you pick the correct type of battery for your MOD. Failing to do so can have serious consequences so be sure to read the manual and pick the right type of battery for this MOD.
You’ll need an 18650 battery, and I’d strongly suggest going for something over 2500mAh. Since you’ll potentially be vaping up to 50 watts, you’re going to want enough juice in your battery to get you through to the day.
A couple batteries that I’d recommend would be the LG HG2 or the Samsung 25R. There are other good ones around, but these are two of the most efficient and longer-lasting batteries that I’ve come across.
PRICE & SHIPPING CHARGES
Kanger Subox Mini Kit is currently available at a price of £54.99. As much as I’d like to have seen this include an 18650 battery, I still feel this kit is pretty good value. Ukecigstore currently offers free delivery in the UK on all orders over £20, so this will more than qualify. A battery should only cost you around £10 or less.
You can get these from somewhere reputable like the Ukecigstore or even Maplin for £10 or less. Personally, I’d stay away from some of the cheaper versions you may find on eBay or Amazon. This is just something I do because using a correct and safe battery is one of most important things you should do when using any kind of e-cig.
WARRANTY & GUARANTEE
This comes with a 30 day manufacturers warranty, which is by no means the longest in comparison to many other companies. After the 30 days you’ll be responsible for any repair costs if there are any faults. For this reason, I’d recommend giving this a lot of use in the those 30 days in case there is anything you need to report back to them or get exchanged.

SHOULD YOU GET THE SUBOX MINI KIT?
All in all, the Kanger Subox Subox Mini Starter kit offers good value at the price. There are a few small things I personally didn’t like about it, but it’s not enough to make me not want to buy it when you compare it to other MODs at a similar price.
It would be nice if it came complete as a starter kit with a battery, but it’s not a deal-breaker for me. The box works great, I’ve had no major issues with the tank so far and I prefer the performance of the rebuild-able to the new coils. I think I’ll buy and use the older OCC coils because I’m not getting good flavor from these new coils. Let me know what you think in the comments….
