Wismec Reuleaux RX200S Box Mod Review

Reuleax Wismec RX200S Box MOD

If you regularly follow along with my reviews, you will probably remember that I recently did one for the Releaux RX200 box mod, and you may also remember that I gave it a glowing review.

This is a unit that I love, which may have you wondering why I am now doing a review on the RX200S, the latest model in the line.

The answer is actually pretty simple, and it’s that there have been some changes made to this model that address the few issues that I had with the RX200.

I am now going to do an individual review of the RX200S, making sure to point out where it has improved over its predecessor.

PACKAGING & DESIGN

The Wismec Reuleaux RX200s comes in a rather nice looking black box that features a stencil outline of the device in silver.

It’s a similar types of packaging to the original RX200 model, and at first glance upon opening the box, you might believe that you are in fact getting the exact same model.

It’s the same chunky design that looks different, but which makes the device fit so nicely in the hand. It’s an ergonomic design that is not necessarily easy on the pockets, but which is great in the hand, which is where it really matters.

The sturdy feel is still there, but once you pick it up, you might start noticing a couple of differences. The first thing that jumps right out at you is the OLED display, which is about twice as large as the RX200.

I’ll go into more details about this part of the device later in the review. The 200 came with no less than 4 different color options, but with the 200S, you get an additional color option, which is green.

One of the things that I didn’t like about the 200 was that the exterior paint had a tendency to chip, and that is an issue that has carried over here.

It’s not a big deal, though, as investing in a case for your device can take care of that issue quite easily. Honestly, this is about the only real problem I can find with the RX200S, as the other issues with the 200 have been addressed in this model.

FUNCTIONALITY

When it comes to functionality and performance, you basically get the very same thing with both models.

Controlling the temperature settings is a breeze, and you can easily go as high as 315°C, which is 15 degees higher than the maximum delivered but the 200.

The RX200S has a maximum wattage of 200W, but with a firmware upgrade, you can move up to 250W, which is really a whole lot more than you will probably ever need.

Vapers who like to mix things up a little when it comes to coils are going to get a real kick out of this device.

Just as with the 200, the 200S is able to handle nickel, titanium, and stainless steel coils, as well as just about anything you care to throw at it.

The good news for those of you who like to mix and match is this way is that the 510 connector has been greatly improved in this model.

There were numerous reports of issues with the connector on the RX200, but that does not seem to be the case here.

I never had a problem with it on the older model, and if you didn’t either, then I wouldn’t upgrade for that reason alone.

OLED DISPLAY

I’m not going to get too carried away with talking about the OLED display on the RX200S, simply because this is where things start to get a little subjective.

Yes, this is a bigger display than on the 200 model, and you can now read the information vertically. I was fine with the horizontal look on the 200, but I understand why some of you will prefer the larger, vertical display.

It should be noted, though, that the larger display means that the unit can feel a little warmer in your hand. I really thought that this was something that I was imagining, but it seems that other people have had the same issue.

BATTERY DETAILS

The set-up here remains the same as before, with a trio of 18650 batteries powering the RX200S.

A charger is supplied with the unit, but I still believe that you are better off with a separate charger, as this speeds things up.

I would also invest in a second set of batteries, so that you are never without a charge.

The batteries themselves are easy to get in and out, and the unit will let you know if you have somehow managed to load them up incorrectly.

DISLIKES

  • Those 3 batteries make things on the heavy side
  • The larger display can make the unit feel warmer in your hand
  • Paint peeling issues (purchasing a cover is recommended)

LIKES

  • Great, ergonomically pleasing design
  • Can be upgraded to a 250W device by installing updated firmware
  • 3 x 18650 batteries help maintain a long charge
  • The ability to handle coils of all types
  • A wide range of temperature settings means allows you to truly customize your vaping experience
  • Outstanding price point
  • Recharge on the go using the supplied USB cable
  • Improved 510 connectivity

SHOULD YOU GET THE RX200S?

The RX200 was up there with one of my all-time favorite box mods in its time, and I have to say that the 200S is just a little better.

Having said this, if you already have an RX200 and it is still working fine, I really don’t see any reason to upgrade.

If, on the other hand, you’re looking for a brand new box mod with all the necessary bells and whistles, I don’t think you can go too far wrong with this RX200S, especially at the price.

I appreciate some people have had issues with the 510 pin, but I personally haven’t had these issues in any of my wismec products. It really does seem to be a mixed bag when it comes to the 510 issue.

The RX200S gets a big thumbs up from me.
