For years, Koopor had been churning out good, albeit dull-looking, mods. The company was content in copying other designs, and it served them well enough. This time, however, it looks like Koopor has decided to get creative with their own Primus 300W TC Mod,. A striking mod, the Primus promises 300 watts of power, but does it deliver? PACKAGING & DESIGN The Primus comes in a standard box where you will find the mod itself and a user manual. When you first lay eyes on the mod, you’ll more than likely either love it or hate it. Unlike the Wismec RX200 where the three batteries are placed in a triangle configuration, batteries here are inserted side by side making for a rather wide and bulky device. The numerous venting holes on the side help with the grip somewhat, and while it feels large, it's not uncomfortable to hold. The battery door slides out and is held by magnets. These magents are not very strong, allowing the battery door to have some play, and it does rattle. The fire button on the other hand is secure and clicky with no rattles. All in all, the Primus is a polarising device. You may well like the bold design, but I'm not too fond of it. With a voltage range of 0.8v to 12v, and a wattage range of 1W to 300W, the Primus is one of the most powerful Variable Wattage devices available today. It has temperature control with a range of 100C to 315C (100F to 600F) with support for Nickel, Titanium, and Stainless Steel coils. In VW mode, the device can handle 0.1ohm to 3ohm resistances, while in TC mode, you can use 0.06ohm to 2.0ohm coils. Powering on the device requires the common five clicks to the fire button. To turn it off, however, you need to hold the button for eight seconds. Not the usual 5 clicks-off that we’re used to. To access the menu you simply click the fire button three times. The menu system is easy to use though it does take a little getting used to. One of the more uncommon features is called "Magic" and this lets you customise your hit with one of three options: hard, normal, and soft. Hard basically ups the wattage by a few points, normal sticks to the selected power, while soft lowers the wattage somewhat. It works well, but I find tend to stick to what I’m used to and keep it in normal mode. To switch modes while the device is unlocked you hold the fire button and the plus button. Holding the fire button and minus button locks the wattage in VW mode. In TC mode, holding the fire and minus button lets you choose between hard, soft, normal, minimum, and maximum effect. As with most VW/TC devices, the Primus has several protections. Namely intelligent atomizer recognition, puff monitoring system, a 12-second cut-off, short circuit protection, overheat protection, and low battery warning. They really have packed a lot of features into this badboy! DISPLAY The OLED screen, located near the top side of the device, is large and bright. On it, you will find all relevant information such as battery level, wattage, temperature, voltage output, time, and even a puff counter. Everything else about it is pretty standard. BATTERY DETAILS The Primus is powered by three 18650 batteries. It's one of the first triple battery mod that features a parallel configuration (as far as I’m aware). One of the advantages of the parallel configuration is that the mod can handle lower resistances, giving you cloud chasers improved vapor production. DISLIKES Magnets - A bit on the weak side, this causes the battery door to rattle and have a lot of play Menu - Though easy to use, it's not as intuitive as many others you'll find and it does take some getting used to Polarizing design - Some like it, some don't. Personally, I'm not a fan Bulky - The side by side configuration of the battery makes for bulky handling Heavy - About the size of a can of soda, lugging the Primus around can be a pain LIKES Clicky Buttons - Clicky and not rattly Affordable - Insane value for a triple 18650 mod with a healthy range of features OLED Screen - Bright, large, and holds a ton of information SHOULD YOU GET THE PRIMUS? For the price, you get insane value from the Koopor Primus. The triple 18650 batteries, 300 watts of power (not that you’ll need it all!), temp control, and tons of other features you'd usually expect to find in more expensive mods are all there for the taking. The design may or may not suit you, but there's no questioning its performance. There are a couple of things to niggle at, such as the weight and weak magnets on the battery door, but if you can put these aside and you really are getting a great piece of kit.
