There has been a lot of hype surrounding disposable vape bars.
When I first heard about them I must admit that I didn’t think too much of them.
For one, I’m not a mouth-to-lung vape enthusiast.
Secondly, ‘disposables’, as they are, have never appealed to me for reasons I’ll get into later in this review.
Having said all this, I received these vape bars in the post some time ago (they were sent to my previous address and I only just had the package forwarded to my new address).
IVG sent me 9 different flavours of these vape bars to review.
I will tell you straight away that there are a few things I don’t like about these vape bars, but there is also a lot I do like about them.
Before I reveal the things I do and don’t like about these disposables, let me give you a brief rundown of what was sent to me…
I received 9 different flavours of these IVG Bars:
- Butter Cookie
- Pineapple Grapefruit
- Mango Lychee
- Exotic Mango
- Cola Ice
- Strawberry Watermelon
- Blue Raspberry Ice
- Passion Fruit
- Berry Lemonade Ice
All of them contained 20mg of nicotine strength.
Each bar has 2ml of e-liquid, and they claim that you should get up to 600 puffs.
The battery is 500mAh, and the ingredients include: Vegetable Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Nicotine, Natural & Artificial Flavours.
Each package contains a single IVG Ready to vape disposable vape bar, and they are designed in the UK, made in China.
There are no wattage buttons and neither is there a button to press when you vape. Instead, the device turns on and off automatically as you vape it, staying at a consistent, fixed wattage.
With that out the way, let’s find out why the hype is so real for these devices…
Mouth to Lung Vaping – Feels Like Smoking
I have become so accustomed to a direct lung inhale that I initially tried vaping this like a sub-ohm device.
What a mistake that was!
These IVG bars are best vaped using a ‘traditional’ mouth-to-lung (MTL) technique, and they do this extremely well.
It may have been a while since I’ve vaped on a MTL device, but one thing I always remember is the inconsistency of them all.
Many were too loose, making them hard to vape, while others were often too tight resulting in frustration as you try to inhale to no avail.
None that I really remember had the ideal MTL balance – and I’d class a good MTL experience as being similar to smoking on a cigarette for reference.
This is where the IVG bar shines.
The ‘drag’ on this device is so similar to smoking that it’s almost unreal.
I’m genuinely impressed.
The reason that mimicking the drag of a cigarette is so important is because, for many, it’s the first step in making these devices a good alternative to smoking.
If you start with something that doesn’t feel like smoking, then it can be harder to quit.
Let’s look at it like this…if you’re a long-time smoker, and you want to quit, you may find it easier to use something that most closely resembles the act of smoking.
And that’s exactly what these bars do.
You inhale them just like you would a cigarette, you get the throat hit similar to you do smoking, and there is even a similar amount of ‘smoke’ or vapor in this case to what you would get when you exhale the smoke of a cigarette.
It may sound a little too good to be true, but this is exactly how I experienced it.
I am all for any device that has the potential to help anyone give up smoking, which is why this is one of the things I liked most about these bars.
One of the things I really liked about the original MTL cig-a-like devices was their size and portability – many were as small as the size of a real cigarette, and you could carry them easily in your pocket.
IVG is not far off with these new Bars.
The length is about 4.2 inches, the width is about 1.2 inches and the thickness is around half an inch. So not bad all round.
I can easily carry a couple of these comfortably in my pocket, which is handy since the batteries aren’t huge.
They are nice and ergonomic and really comfortable to hold with their smooth edges.
Now we move on to the simplicity of these bars…
This may not be a positive thing for some of you, especially if you love being able to adjust your wattage…
…but all that aside, the simplicity of these devices is a major W.
There are no buttons or ‘gimmicks’ with these bars.
They come ready to use straight out of the package. Nothing to re-fill. No buttons to press.
The simplicity of these bars makes them a viable choice for smokers that want to find an alternative to help them quit since they are just as easy to use as a cigarette.
You could even argue that these bars are easier to use than cigarettes since you don’t have to use a lighter to get the Bar going.
Simply open the box, inhale, and you’re on your way!
So we know they’re easy to use, but what more important that this?
You guessed it…the flavour!
Let’s dive in…
If you’re a ‘flavour chaser’ you’ll want to read on…
The amount of flavour these manage to pull of has to be one of the biggest reasons these little bars have received so much hype.
When I took my first ‘toke’ I was mesmerized by the amount of flavour and the accuracy compared to what it was meant to represent.
I know it might sound like I’m exaggerating somewhat here, but they really are that good.
Having said this, out of the 9 I received, I didn’t like all the flavours I tried – but this is just a personal prefernce since flavour is very much subjective, and not everybody is going to like every flavour.
This doesn’t detract from the amount of flavour they pumped out.
Some just weren’t my ‘cup of tea’.
Here’s a quick rundown of the flavours I received, and my initial thoughts on them:
Really nice balance of both strawberry and melon.
I don’t normally like this flavour combination as I’m not really a fan of melon flavoured e-liquids (Although I do love the fruit!), but the IVG Bars seems to make magic happen here.
It’s delicious, and I enjoyed the flavour combo.
Sweet but not too sweet, and the flavour of passionfruit is really prominent, which I liked.
Admittedly I have never tried a passionfruit e-liquid before this, and it’s made me ask myself why.
If there is a passionfruit e-liquid that tastes half as good as this, then I know I’ll be hooked!
This Bar has made me want to explore more passionfruit e-liquid flavours since this is my second most-liked flavour out of the 9 I received.
If you know of any good passionfruit e-liquids you’d like to recommend, pop them in the comments below and I’ll do my best to try them and report back to you!
Blue Raspberry Ice
Blue raspberry has always been a go-to flavour of mine.
One of my favourite e-liquid at the moment just so happens to be Blue Raspberry by Big Drip.
This vape bar does not disappoint.
It’s really tasty with a nice sweetness to it, but it’s not too sweet for my preferences.
Reminiscent of the cola bottles we all know and love, the flavour resembles these sweets (or candy for you guys across the pond) to the tee from the sweetness on the inhale, which continues on the exhale.
Vaping cola ice really takes me back to my childhood and I loved every minute of vaping it.
If you love your cola bottles, this is one you really do have to try!
Berry Lemonade Ice
Okay, so this was my overall favourite of the bunch – the berry lemonade combo does not disappoint.
When I reviewed Riberry Lemonade, one of the few complaints I had was that the lemonade flavour wasn’t very prominent – I could barely taste the lemonade.
These IVG Bars hit different though.
The flavour of the lemonade is definitely there and is well balanced with the berry flavour.
If I could find an e-liquid flavour that replicated this for my MOD, it would be in my sub-ohm tank right now, that’s for sure.
This flavour took me by surprise.
I have never liked any pineapple e-liquid I’ve tried, and while I haven’t tried a grapefruit one before, I can confirm that I do not like the taste of grapefruit. The fruit and drink to be more specific.
That being said, the flavour of this bar was awesome.
I have no idea how they do it, but this was yet another flavour I just kept wanting more of. I honestly can’t get my head around it.
You can definitely taste both flavours, but the flavour is more sweet than bitter, and the blend is perfect.
I would go as far as to say that this would be in my top 4 flavours out of the bunch I tried, and if I was ever to buy a batch of these, this would without doubt be added to my cart.
When I saw this ‘Mango’ flavour, I knew that there would be a slim chance I was going to like it since I really do not like the flavour of Mango and neither do I like the taste of the fruit.
I know this is a little strange since I rarely come across anyone that doesn’t like Mango, but that’s just me. I really don’t like it.
So how did I get on with this Exotic Mango?
I didn’t like it. But it wasn’t as bad as I expected.
The flavour of Mango is very much prominent and for this reason I was put off vaping it regularly. I kept trying to go back to it, but it just wasn’t for me.
If you like the flavour of Mango, you probably will enjoy this since it is sweet and flavourful, but my taste buds gave it the red light!
I know this is going to sound very contradictory since I just explained how much I detest the taste of Mango, but for some reason, the Mango Lychee bar is just different.
I liked this one!
You can taste the Mango, but it’s not near as strong as the Mango flavour in the Exotic Mango bar.
Something about the Lychee makes this not just bearable, but really tasty.
Admittedly I had never heard of ‘Lychee’ before I came across these bars, but having done some research into these tropical fruits, I now can’t wait to try one since I presume I’ll enjoy it if it tastes as good as it does in this bar.
I know most people usually save the best for last, but I’ve done the opposite.
This butter cookie bar was a flavour I expected not to like, and it lived up to my expectations.
It does have a strong butter cookie taste, and I don’t doubt dessert flavour lovers will enjoy this.
There are not too many ‘dessert’ e-liquids that I’ve enjoyed, although this is starting to change as I try new dessert flavours, but this one isn’t it.
I will be passing it on to a friend who I know likes these types of flavours because as much as I tried vaping it, I just can’t.
I feel like the price of these disposable vape bars is a bit higher than I would like.
They cost around £4.00 – £6.00 each, which I have to admit still makes it cheaper than smoking a pack of cigarettes, but I can’t bring myself to spend this amount on a device that will get me around 1-2 days’ of use.
Not everyone will vape one of these in just a couple of days. If you can get 3 or more days use out of one of these then I think the price is much more justifiable.
One of mine ran out of battery quicker than it should (likely faulty). I was only about 300 puffs in (give or take) before the battery decided to pack up.
I do accept that a small percentage of these will have small faults like this, and if I had purchased it, i would have asked for a replacement. Having said this, all the other devices I tried exceeded the 600 puffs, so I can’t complain too much!
600 puffs sounds like a lot, and if you’re a light vaper you should get plenty of use out of these, which would make them more worthy of their price.
But I’m someone that likes to vape a lot, and I would only get around a day and a half use out of each one.
If they could get these up to 900 puffs, I’d be much happier, but I appreciate this may be a challenge considering their size.
It may seem odd that I note the colours of these bars as a major ‘L’, but I can’t hide behind the fact that they looked like a bag of skittles when I took them all out of their packaging and laid them out.
Of course, this isn’t good when it comes to teens and children seeing them, since it makes the bars attractive to them.
If there’s one thing we should have learned over recent years, it’s that anything vape-related needs not to be advertising itself to the youth.
I think the best solution to this is to make them a neutral colour and have them labelled.
I know this would make them less attractive, and therefore they may not sell as well in general as a result, but I think it’s more important to be as responsible as possible, and I’m sure there are other ways these devices can be designed to make them attractive to adults yet not so attractive to teens and children.
Where Can You Buy IVG Bars?
You can buy the IVG Vape Bars online and they may even sell them at your local vape shop.
If you’re from the UK, you can get them direct from IVG themselves. they’re also stocked in most other online shops, which you can find by running a simple Google search.
The prices don’t vary too much depending on where you buy them so I’d be more inclined to check postage costs since these can vary quite a bit depending on where you buy them.
Would I Buy More?
While there were a few flavours I loved, I’m not convinced I would go out and buy more of these. But this is mostly because these aren’t my preferred vaping devices.
I much prefer to sub-ohm vape, but if I was travelling and needed something a lot less discrete for any particular occasion, then yes, I could see myself grabbing a few of these.
Overall, I found the IVG Vape Bars to be a decent disposable vape device.
They have a good 600 puffs of use, come in a range of flavours, and are relatively affordable.
There were only a few things I didn’t like about them, such as the faulty device I had and the fact they have been designed in a way that makes to really attractive to children.
You can buy them direct from IVG or from most other online vape shops.
If you’re looking for a simple vape that you can use straight out of the box and you want something that’s jam-packed full of flavour, then these may be worth checking out.
