The original Uwell Crown was met with high praises as one of the best tanks in its class.
When Uwell released the second version, it failed spectacularly due to design flaws.
The company has now come up with the Crown III to show the vaping world that their initial success wasn’t a fluke.
They say the third time’s a charm, but does it apply here?
UWELL CROWN III
The Uwell Crown III comes in a nice crystal case that prominently displays the tank itself. Inside, you will find the tank, two coils (one 0.25 and one 0.5 ohms), one replacement glass, a spare parts pack, and a user manual.

Uwell didn’t include an RBA deck, but there is an extra glass tank.
The Crown III comes in a variety of colors – sapphire blue, stainless steel, matte black, black, and iridiscent.
I have to say that I’m a fan of all these, but gold ring around the 510 drip tip is a bit of a bummer since most of my mods are silver.
Why the gold, Uwell???
Anyway, the drip tip is removable, so you can pop on your own to avoid this mismatch.
The tank has a nice 5ml capacity, which puts it in the ‘larger tank’ category.

After the Crown II debacle, Uwell has made it its mission to ensure the third iteration lives up to (and exceed) the expectations set by the first Crown. After a few days, I had an idea of what the Crown III brings to the table, and it excited me. The third time is really the charm here. Aside from exceeding the original’s performance, the newest Crown had a few tricks up its sleeve that makes it even better.

One of these is the press-fit coil system that makes it easy to swap out coils without having to empty out the tank first.
While some tanks allow you to change coils midway through a tank’s capacity, the Crown III’s system is a step higher than most. This is probably the tank’s best new feature and one that I truly love.
This is probably the tank’s best new feature for me.
Performance-wise, I can say that the Crown III is better than the original Crown.
Flavor from the coils is impressive, and the aesthetics is superb.
While the gold ring around the 510 drip tip detracts from the overall look, it is easily changed so that doesn’t make it a lasting con anyway.
Besides, at just £23.99, you can easily overlook this minor quirk.
The tank has airflow adjustment as well as a top fill port.
The fill holes are large enough that you can use the tip of your glass drippers, but Uwell could have done with making this hole slightly larger to enable you to use a wider range of bottle tips.
WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR
Not everything about the Crown III is perfect though.
When refilling the tank the first time, I found it difficult to remove the top cap.
In the box, there is a Crown shaped tool that acts as a key to gain access to the fill ports.
This is an odd design choice since other manufacturers don’t require a special tool just to fill the tank, but I can see why they did it – to avoid the entire tank coming apart when you dismantle it.
While Uwell says this helps in stabilising the pressure of the tank, the question still stands as to how other manufacturers maintain tank pressure without the use of a key?
It’s not a major problem but does mean you’ll need to have this tool or something similar any time you want to dismantle the tank.
DISLIKES
- Gold Ring Around Drip Tip – The gold ring around the drip tip can make or break the overall appearance of your setup. But since I usually use silver mods, the gold band ruins the sleek appearance I try to maintain with my setups.
- Juice Holes – While the juice holes are large enough, it would have been so much better if it were larger to accommodate a larger range of bottle tips.
- Top Fill Cap – The top cap needs to be removed via a special crown-shaped tool, which can be a hassle since it’s one extra thing you’ll need to bring with you. While you can replace and remove the top cap without it, the pressure won’t be as stabilised, thus giving you a slightly inferior vape (if you believe the hype).

- Press-Fit Coil – The best feature of the Crown III, the press-fit coil makes it a breeze to swap out coils without having to empty the tank out first.
- Flavor – The flavor from the coil and tank far exceeds the already great flavor of the original.
- Design – The overall design is beautiful, making the tank easy to pair with almost any mod you have.
- Spare Glass – The inclusion of a spare glass for the tank eliminates the stress of having to seek out extras when you break your original glass.
- Price – For just £23.99, you are getting a whole lotta tank for the money.
SHOULD YOU BUY THE CROWN III?
The original Uwell Crown was a beauty of tank that performed well for its time. In fact, I still use mine on the odd occasion today.
The second Crown by Uwell was a huge failure, but this one is a most definitely a winner.
The Crown III has awesome flavor, great aesthetics, and cool new features to boot.
While the need for a special tool may knock the Crown III down a few points, it is still a tank well worth having.
After using my original Uwell Crown for years, finally, it can be upgraded with its worthy successor.
The Crown III is a tank well worth the (very affordable) cost.
