The original Egrip was a runaway success, though it had a few quirks. With the release of the Egrip II, Joyetech is looking to address these issues to provide a superior successor. Lately there have been a number of all-in-one devices hitting the market, and Joyetech is hoping this latest release will rule them all. PACKAGING & DESIGN The Egrip II comes in a standard box with an image of the mod in front and some pertinent information at the back. Nothing fancy. Inside, you'll find the mod, a mini USB cable, three coil heads of varying resistance, an RBA section, and a replacement chimney/510 section. The mod itself looks a lot like the company's VTC Mini, albeit a little wider due to the integrated 3.5ml tank. A small window can be seen on the sides of the mod so you can check the level of eliquid remaining. There is an air flow control ring and drip tip attached to the top that looks a lot like a small atomizer. The OLED screen is located just below the fire button, above the adjustment buttons. A USB charging port fills out the front of the device below the adjustment buttons. Design-wise, the Egrip II is a sleek looking mod that looks and feels like a premium device. However, if you have your own tank or atomizer you wish to use with the Egrip II, there is a 510 adapter included that allows you to do so. The device can put out a maximum 80 watts of power and has temperature control as well, with support for nickel, titanium and stainless steel coils. The tank can accommodate up to 3.5 ml of ejuice, which can last you a day of moderate vaping. You can also change the LED light color to suit your mood, and the firmware is upgradeable, which is always a welcome option. The screen of the Egrip II has, what Joyetech calls, an RTC or Real Time Clock. This allows the mod to show the time in analog or digital form even in sleep or locked mode. Since it is always on, it makes you wonder how much battery life it eats up. Since the batteries aren't replaceable, this can be an issue. Aside from the clock, the screen also shows the date, the wattage or temperature, the coil resistance, and the battery level. There is also dual circuit protection that gives you protection from over-charging, over-current, and over-discharging, making the mod much safer and reliable. Other safety features include 10 second puff protection, short circuit protection, low battery protection, low resistance protection, and high temperature protection. One dubious feature the mod has is a Flappy Bird game. While a novelty and some vapers might appreciate the distraction, it also gives the wrong impression that the mod is trying to attract a younger audience. Given the issues with minors vaping, adding a game within the mod does not help our cause. When it comes to performance, the Egrip II does not disappoint. The airflow is good, and the notch coils included vape very well with clean flavor. For the money, I haven't been disappointed. DISPLAY The display looks like your typical mod display, but what Joyetech is proud of with the Egrip II is its RTC or Real Time Clock feature. Even when the screen is off, the clock is displayed which raises questions as to how much it drains from the battery. There is a date setting as well, which can be useful. One nice feature is the ability to change the home screen itself. You can edit some of the information displayed such as the power, the puff counter, or how much time you've spent vaping. As I previously mentioned, the inclusion of a Flappy Bird game on a MOD is not a good move by Joyetech in today's climate. Anyone that is against vaping will likely suggest that a MOD with games on it will attract children, and this is everything we want to avoid as we fight for our right to vape. As much as I enjoy playing the game on this MOD, I'm not happy with this inclusion. BATTERY DETAILS The Egrip II has a built-in 2100mAh battery which is not replaceable. This is probably the biggest negative on the device. 2100mAh is not much and once you are out of power, you'd need to plug the device and wait for it to charge. While it does have passthrough capabilities, I doubt you'd want to vape while plugged to a power source. TANK DETAILS The integrated tank can hold up to 3.5 ml of e-juice, which is enough to last a whole day of moderate vaping. You might want more, but you'd have to deal with a bigger device. As it is, the capacity is just right. Filling it is easy too - you simply unscrew the top cap and fill the tank up, then screw the top back on. The filling port is big enough that most bottles can easily fit. The notch coils included with the kit vape very well and give good flavor. There's an RBA deck included if you'd prefer to build your own coils. It's worth noting that the deck is quite small, which can make it a little more difficult to rebuild on, but it is doable and it's nice to have this option if you like build decks. If you want to switch to different tank or atomizer you can use the 510 adapter. Simply fit it into the tank in place of the coils and, whallah, you're good to go with your preferred tank. The compactness of the mod will be compromised, but the option to use your favorite atomizer makes it all worthwhile. DISLIKES Built-in battery - Aside from the inability to swap out batteries, 2100mAh just won't cut it. Especially if you vape at a full 80 watts. Coil spit back - As good as the notch coils are, there is some spit back which can derail the vaping experience Flappy birds? - The inclusion of a game is not just puzzling, but gives cause for anti-vapers to continue lobbying against vape companies because it looks like the inclusion of games is there to attract children and minors LIKES Temp control - Most new mods have it, and it's good to see the option in an all-in-one kit 80 Watts of power - The previous version maxed out at 30 watts, so it's good to see the power here gets more than doubled Firmware upgradeable - The ability to upgrade your mod is always good 3.5ml tank - The integrated tank holds an ample amount of ejuice to ensure you get to vape uninterrupted by constant refills Well priced - For the price you pay, the value you get out of the Egrip II is more than worth it 510 adapter - The ability to use your own tanks or atomizers doubles the value of the Egrip II LED color change - To be able to change the LED color of your tank gives the mod a degree of customisation not often seen in more expensive mods Good airflow - The airflow control gives you enough control to get decent mouth to lung hits to nice lung inhales Notch coils - The included heads with notch coils perform surprisingly good with decent clouds and good flavor Well built - The Egrip II is solid and feels like a premium device through and through Easier to clean - Unlike the previous model, the Egrip II is easier to clean though you still have to take while cleaning the tank are SHOULD YOU GET EGRIP II? The Egrip II is a nice device that gives you good value for the money, however, I wouldn't recommend it as a personal device. It's great for new vapers looking for an all-in-one solution, but for advanced vapers, it's best to look past this one and check out other, more advanced devices. There's potential in the device, but my overall experience hasn't been all that great. I do acknowledge that most other online reviews of the Joyetech eGrip II are a lot more positive than this review, but I can only go by my experience and give my most honest feedback. A few more tweaks here and there and it MIGHT be a great device. Till then, I can't personally recommend it.
